Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Not the Only Samsung Product that Faces Safety Hazard

Samsung has been the subject of headlines after its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones have been reported to burst into flames.

However, it has been found out that it is not the only Samsung smartphone that is facing scrutiny due to its safety. Unfortunately, other appliances owned by Samsung are experiencing the same issue. 

For instance, 144,000 Samsung washing machines were recalled in Australia due to its potential to cause fire. Furthermore, there is news about the company recalling the same laundry units across the United States due to the same issue. 

This is not, however, the only time Samsung has faced this issue.

Way back years ago, 184,000 microwave ovens and 210,000 refrigerators were recalled in the United States and Korea in 2003 and 2009, respectively. Also in 2009, a total of around 43,000 microwave ovens were again recalled in the United States due to a shock hazard plus 20,000 units of washing machines in 2007 because of a fire risk.

This goes to show that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is not an isolated case, but it is so far the largest recall by the company. As of present, there are at least 2.5 million devices that have been recalled. To make it worse, it seems like the giant company is not doing its best to reach out to customers who have been affected by the recalls.

"Samsung has not been communicative with consumers, regulators or the media as clearly as it should have during this recall, especially for a hazard as dangerous as this one where your phone can catch on fire, damage your property and harm your family," said William Wallace, a policy analyst for Consumers Union, the advocacy arm of Consumer Reports.

Although the smartphone recall belongs to a different division than the TV and kitchen appliances, the fact that reports about Samsung devices and appliances catching fire and facing other safety hazard is something that they should not take lightly.
