HP Elite X3: Can this Phone Replace your PC?

The HP Elite X3 is a Windows 10 powered, 6-inch phablet that can be doubled as a desktop PC. With the use of a couple of optional accessories, this Windows powered device can be used as a full Windows desktop.

The approach HP used isn't really new to us and we've seen a few devices of the same breed. One perfect example is the Motorola Atrix 4G which was released surprisingly five years ago.

Although the idea of convertible phones is not really new to us, HP claims that its device varies from any other phones with similar capabilities due to its processing power that's good enough to compete with conventional laptops and notebooks.

The HP Elite X3 sports the latest SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 820. It is said that the Snapdragon 820 is as powerful as any other processor out there, but utilizes less power. The device also has 4GB of LPDDR-4 RAM to pair with the Snapdragon 820 and a Cat-6 LTE antenna. The device also carries two 'Bang & Olufsen' optimized front-facing speakers. HP also managed to keep the handset to a respectable dimensions while fitting in the 4,150mAh battery. Whether you're a casual user or a smartphone junkie, the amount of juice in this device should last an entire day of usage or even more.

Other specifications include Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and, IP67 water and dust resistance, active noise cancellation for crisp and clear videocalls, and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter that combines two images taken at the same time that improves video and picture quality perfect for low-light shots.

The Elite X3 also considers security as one of its top priorities. With this in mind, HP threw in two biometric scanners-- Iris and fingerprint, for user identification aside from secure boot, image encryption, VPN-SSL, and Bitlocker security features.

Talking about doubling as conventional PC, the desktop dock for the Elite X3 transforms the user experience to a different level. The dock carries out the most essential connections like the USB-C and USB-A, HDMI out, and Ethernet port for wired connectivity. The dock is bulky for your pocket but handy enough to fit into a small bag. Pair it with a couple of wireless keyboard and mouse then you will be up and working in no time.
