Google's Android OS is continuing its global market domination as the newest report released by market research firm Strategy Analytics, shows that Android has moved up its global smartphone market share from 84.1 per cent in Q3 2015 to around 88 per cent in the same quarter this year. On the other hand, Apple's iOS saw its market share decline. The California based company's share is down to 12.1 per cent from its record last year of 13.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, Android get another win on the smartphone shipment numbers with a year-on-year increase of 10.3 per cent, iOS, meanwhile, has its share shrink to 5.2 percent. Android devices increased its shipment to 328.6 million.

Neil Mawston, Executive Director of Strategy Analytics stated that "Android's gain came at the expense of every major rival platform." He added that Apple iOS lost some of its market hold to Android causing it to fall to 12 percent share worldwide in third quarter of 2016. The decline is due to Apple's poor sales in China and Africa.

Furthermore Mawston said that other rival OS like BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows Phone have all shrink down to obscurity because of the market shift. He also stated that up and coming platform and OS like Tizen has lost some of its market foothold due to their limited product portfolio and low budgetary allowances compare to other tech giants.

With the emergence of low-cost vendors of the Android smartphone platform like those from China has seen its market share grow. The OS could meet some challenges in the future. Woody Oh, director of the market research firm share the outlook of Google's OS, "Android's leadership of the global smartphone market looks unassailable at the moment. Its low-cost services and user-friendly software remain attractive to hardware makers, operators and consumers worldwide".

Oh said that Android Phone could meet some challenges. He identified the challenges by stating that the Android platform has very wide and overcrowded list of manufacturers. Though only a few of the manufacturers are gaining profit.

Moreover, Oh added that the newest smartphone line of Google, could create some rift towards some of its hardware collaborators and partners that made Android the number 1 OS in the world. Google released its flagship phones, the Pixel phone and the larger Pixel XL early last month. Experts predict that this could hurt other manufacturers who is supported by Google's OS.
