First Look At Amazon’s Newly Launched Kindle Oasis

The new Kindle Oasis is one of the most absolute designs that have come out from Amazon for its top-selling e-reader, according to the Wall Street Journal. It is also the priciest e-reader launched in the past few years.

As per the report, the Oasis is really thin with a 3.4mm thick screen, which makes the iPhone 6s double in its thickness. The body of the luxury e-reader is wider where you are supposed to grip it while browsing through a book. There are only two page turn buttons that have enough room around them to hold the Oasis comfortably.

You have to turn the asymmetrical e-reader upside down to switch hands but the screen contents flip over too. The device nestles well because the battery and circuitry are clustered in the handle. However, it may take a while to get used to it due to the bold design.

A sleeker design means that the Kindle Oasis has less built-in battery life as compared to its predecessors, with the time span ranging in weeks rather than in months. However, according to CNN, Amazon makes up for this by offering a larger bonus battery, which incidentally is kept in a leather case.

The electronics company says that the dual-battery setup will keep the Kindle Oasis running for months. In addition, the big case battery will charge the small internal battery on being connected. On being magnetically docked in its case, the complete package of the Oasis resembles the old Kindles, however, it looks classier.

The least changed feature of the Oasis is its screen that measures 6 inches diagonally, making it similar to the previous seven generations of Kindle. The 300 dot-per-inch display with front light is akin to the Paperwhite and Voyage. Amazon claims that the new light distribution system is an improved feature that allows for more even lighting across its face.

Waterproofing is one major attribute that is missing in the luxury model, especially because this feature was one of the foremost selling points for Kindle, allowing it to be carried around and read outdoors. A base price of a base price of $290 and a top price of $380, which comes with no lock-screen ads and a 3G cellular connection, makes the Kindle Oasis heavy on the pocket.
