Pokemon Go Movie: Legendary Pictures In Talks With Nintendo Over Live Action Pokemon Movie Rights

It seems after a staggering debut success the real-world adventure game, "Pokemon Go," will soon make a Hollywood entry as new reports suggest Legendary Pictures are currently in talks with Nintendo for the rights to a live-action Pokémon movie.

According to Deadline, Legendary Pictures are interested in making a live action Pokemon movie and have already begun talks with Nintendo for the rights. The talks are reportedly in the very early stages. The report added that there is a rumored "scenario" that Max Landis, who directed Chronicle, could be handed over the responsibility of writing the script for the Pokemon movie.

It be noted that Legendary Pictures isn't the only Hollywood studio interested in getting film rights of the popular Nintendo video game. Sony and Warner Bros. were also reportedly in the list back in April.

Developed by the Pokemon Company and Niantic, "Pokemon GO" is a mobile game which require players to detect Pokemon in the real world and catch them by flicking a Poke Ball to throw it at one. There are different Pokemon types to be found in different locations. For example, places near the water like lakes, fountains, will reflect water-type Pokémon, while fields can show grass-type ones.

The free mobile AR game app is already available for Android and iOS, on the Google Play Store and the App Store. The gaming app is currently the most downloaded in the iTunes store. It has been reportedly downloaded more than 7.5 million times through both the iTunes Store and Google Play for Android devices. The augmented reality game is said to have generated more than $14 million across mobile platforms, according to Superdata Research analysts.

The app's release comes as Nintendo celebrates the franchise's 20th Anniversary. The gaming studio's share prices has jumped more than 40 percent following the game's release.
