Stephen Hawking Calls Donald Trump A 'Demagogue' In ITV Network Appearance

Stephen Hawking is one of the brightest minds who can understand the workings of the universe. However, even the most brilliant scientist of his time cannot grasp the idea of how popular Donald Trump has been.

The Washington Times said that astrophysicist said that the presumptive Republican candidate is "a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator."

Hawking, who is famously known for being in a wheelchair most of his career due to a slow-progressing form of ALS is alos and advocate for individuals with disabilities. Last year, Trump drew criticism on the campaign trail for mocking a New York Times reporter with a disability in South Carolina. He then denied ever mocking the reporter, saying he never met him.

In his appearance on UK's ITV Network, Hawking also spoke of his home-country issues, urging British voters to keep the UK as part of the European Union. The often talked about "Brexit" vote is scheduled in a little over three weeks, and a vote to leave the EU, he said, would cost Britain a lot in terms of economy, national security, and scientific research.

He added, "Gone are the days we could stand on our own against the world. We need to be part of a larger group of nations, both for our security and our trade."

The Guardian noted that Stephen Hawking has always been unapologetically opinionated -- not only in behalf of scientists around the world, but also on behalf of the disabled community. His support for different factions -- including the protesta gainst Israeli treatment of the Palestinians, backing of a $100 million project to accelerate a spacecraft to a fifth of the speed of light to be sent to the nearest star system, and favor for assisted suicide for the terminally ill, among others, made him a voice to be reckoned with.

Still, his referendum for politics is not a surprise, most of the senior citizens in Britain have backed the campaign to keep the country in the EU.
