Many men are concerned with the size of their penis. Rest-assured, most no longer have to live in fear that theirs is freakishly small. Turns out, it's probably just average.

Yes. We know that besides sports or the body parts of that woman bending over to pick up a pen, men are constantly obsessing over this piece of their anatomy. Is it big enough?

Until now, there really has been no formal research in penis size and no real attempt to develop any type of system to measure a way to show the difference in sizes between flaccid and erect ones. This has kept many a man up at night pacing with ruler in hand.

Now, a group of British investigators have reviewed 17 published studies that included over 15,000 men whose penises were measured by health professionals with a standard procedure. The average flaccid penis was 3.6 inches, the average length of a flaccid stretched penis was 5.3 inches and the average length of an erect penis was 4.6 inches.

Does that sound about right? Or is your member more girth than length? The average erect circumference came in at 4.6 inches and 3.7 inches when flaccid.

"We believe these graphs will help doctors reassure the large majority of men that the size of their penis is in the normal range," Dr. David Veale, of King's College London, said in a news release. "We will also use the graphs to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be their position on the graph and their actual position or what they think they should be."

The study was initially conducted to help treat patients dealing with the anxiety of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

More information regarding the findings can be found via the journal BJU International.
