Lesbians Are Having Better Sex than Straight Women, Study Shows

Lesbians are having better sex than straight women, according to recent findings published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

"Little is known about orgasm occurrences among women and men of varied sexual orientations across the adult lifespan," said an assistant professor of gender studies and a director at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, via the Huffington Post. "Understanding the factors that influence variation in orgasm occurrence among sexual minority populations may assist in tailoring behavioral therapies for those of different sexual orientations."

For the study, researchers collected responses from a 2011 online questionnaire from 6,151 men and women between the ages of 21 and 65. Then, they analyzed the following information to a smaller subsample of 2,850 singles who had been sexually active within the past 12 months.

Findings revealed that women in same-sex relationships were more likely than heterosexual ones to reach orgasm during intimacy. Seventy-five percent of lesbians said they were able to reach orgasm during intimacy while only 62 percent of women reported that they could with a partner, according to Pink News.

Researchers also found that overall, straight women experienced fewer orgasms than straight men. However, bisexual women were reportedly the least likely to experience climax, reporting in at 58 percent.

The same was not true for gay, bisexual and straight men, however, who reported a higher percentage of experiencing orgasm during intimacy. Furthermore, the study revealed that 85.1 percent of men between the ages of 21 and 65 experienced orgasm.

"One possible explanation is that lesbian women are more comfortable and familiar with the female body and thus, on average, are better able to induce orgasm in their female partner," researchers added. 

"Findings from this large dataset of US singles suggest that women, regardless of sexual orientation, have less predictable, more varied orgasm experiences than do men and that for women, but not men, the likelihood of orgasm varies with sexual orientation," they concluded. "These findings demonstrate the need for further investigations into the comparative sexual experiences and sexual health outcomes of sexual minorities."
