A massive 22 feet long wasp nest was discovered in an abandoned house in San Sebastian de la Gomera on the Island of Tenerife and the police have cordoned it off subsequently.

The police was contacted by the neighbors. On entering the empty home, the officials were shocked to find a seven meter tall wasp nest with millions of wasps. The police are trying to find the owner, reportsThinkSpain.

Experts claim that the wasps appear to be of an African variety.  According to them, the European wasps (normal wasps) generally found in the gardens cannot build such big nests. The police authorities are looking for ways to remove the huge nest from the home and claim it to be one difficult task.

Based on the size of the nest and the kind of wasps, officials assume that the wasps are an invasive species that have come from Africa as the island of Tenerife is separated from the coast of Morocco by just 100 miles.

Reports according to the Daily Mail suggest that the wasp nest is most likely to be the largest one ever recorded. The Guinness Book of World Records shows the largest wasp nest recorded was found in Waimaukau in New Zealand in 1963.  The nest was 12 feet 2 inches with a diameter of 5 feet and circumference of 18 meters. It was constructed by German wasps, which later broke as the branch it was built upon collapsed due to the weight.
