Getting your wisdom teeth out is no big deal at all. A 24-year-old California man's family was under the same notion. But to their shock, Marek Lapinski died unexpectedly after having his wisdom teeth removed.

The family of Lapinski, who was a software developer from San Diego, is probing into this serious matter to find out what really took his life.

The patient care report from the American Medical Response claims that Lapinski woke up coughing during the medical procedure, and the doctors then gave him propofol, which is a powerful anesthetic.

Later, he suffered a cardiac arrest and was immediately transferred to the hospital, where he died three days later. Dr. Steven Paul, an oral surgeon in Temecula, Calif., is being questioned by Lapinski's family on the treatment he offered, which eventually led to his death.

Looking at the medical reports, Lapinski's sister Natalie, who is a nurse, told Fox5SanDeigo that at least six sedatives were given by the surgeon, and an excess of anesthesia as well. She predicts that Lapinski went without oxygen for nearly 10 minutes.

"He wasn't going in for open heart surgery or something," said Natalie.

She even said that her brother was very restless before his surgery. She told KSWB TV that he was scared to get the surgery done. He sent a text in the morning saying that he was going in, and would call her when he was out. But she never heard from him again.

According to his mother April Lapinski, the pulmonary doctor said that this was a case of overdose. Since Marek did not have any health issue, it was unexpected and came as shock to the family.

The official cause of his death will be confirmed after an autopsy is conducted. The family plans on taking legal action.
