Leonardo DiCaprio Addresses Climate Change Action, 'No Turning Back On Paris Agreement'

Hollywood actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio stands up for climate change action. He said on Friday that fighting climate change is the "biggest economic opportunity" in the history of the U.S. no matter who holds political office.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who received a prize from the United Nations for his work as a global citizen, said that there are a few very prominent people that still deny the overwhelming conclusions of the world's scientists that climate change is largely human-caused and needs immediate urgent attention. But the truth about climate change has spread like "wildfire."

In pursuance with his fight for climate change, Leonardo DiCaprio together with the head of his foundation met President-elect Donald Trump and his team earlier this month. They tackled issues that support for renewable energy could create millions of jobs, according to The Guardian.

Leonardo DiCaprio explained that in less than 100 years of human's pollution-based prosperity, humans have put the entire existence in jeopardy. He just made a documentary on climate change titled Before the Flood some months ago. It indicates the impacts of global warming on the planet Earth.

Leonardo DiCaprio said that his documentary was the most viewed in history. He meant this as showing just how much the world cares about the issue of climate change.

Indie Wire reports that Before the Flood has reached over 60 million people all around the world and surpassed a record setting. This makes it one of the most watched documentaries in history and the most watched National Geographic film ever.

On the other hand, for Leonardo DiCaprio the battle was far from over. He urges the people and the nations to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change. This agreement is effective in November, and he is asking everyone to "go further."

"To those who may be discouraged by naysayers, let me remind you, the environmental awakening is all over the world and the progress we have made so far ... has always been because of people, not governments," Leonardo DiCaprio said. Likewise, he further said that the Paris Agreement was a precious achievement that humans must support and nurture. "There is no turning back."
