Essential Oils That Could Ease The Symptoms Of Asthma And Prevent Asthma Attacks

Asthma is a common lung disease that inflicts adults and children all around the globe. Almost 26 million Americans that include more than 7 million children suffer from asthma, according to American Lung Association.

It is a condition wherein the airways in the lungs become inflamed and swollen. This leads to difficulty in breathing. At present, there is no cure for asthma. On the other hand, there are some natural treatment options that provide the health benefit for people suffering from asthma.

Medical News Today and New Health Advisor share the following essential oils that are found to ease the symptoms of asthma. They can also prevent asthma attacks.

1. Eucalyptus

In a study published in the International Journal of Phytopharmacy, the eucalyptus oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Its oil has a strong scent that aids in decongesting airways. It also has the component called eucalyptol that breaks phlegm and mucous. To apply it, add a few drops of oil to hot water then breathe the steam. This allows you to breathe easily and relax lung spasms.

2. Peppermint

Peppermint could help to stop the release of histamine in the body, which triggers asthma attacks. It contains a substance known as methanol and could relieve stuffy or blocked noses. Just combine two drops of peppermint essential oil, 20 drops of carrier oil, eight drops of lavender and one drop of lemon. Then, rub the mixture onto your chest twice a day. This could inhibit asthma attacks.

3. Lavender

Lavender oil has natural sedative and anti-inflammatory properties. This could help in fighting the inflammation to people with asthma. You can inhale the combination of lavender and eucalyptus or peppermint. You can also have several drops of lavender oil into a bowl with hot water and then inhale the steam. Cover your head with a towel.

4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil could remove the mucous in your system. It also relieves coughing and bronchitis. To apply, get a clean face towel soak in warm water and add a few drops of tea tree oil. Then, breathe in the warm towel until cool.

5. Roman Chamomile and Bergamot

Roman chamomile and bergamot contain sedative properties that relax the body. They relieve the symptoms of asthma. Just combine a few drops of roman chamomile and bergamot oils and then rub the mixture to your chest and back. This could relieve asthma attacks.
