Apple iPhone 8 may find itself a new competitor in Huawei. Huawei is presently the third largest smartphone manufacturer with 33.6 million shipped devices in the third quarter. Richard Yu, chief executive of Huawei's consumer business group, told Reuters that Huawei wants to become world's second largest smartphone manufacturer beating Apple, which is currently at the second spot.

Apple commands a 12 percent market share with 45.5 million shipped devices and Samsung leads the pack with 20.1 percent market share and 75.3 million shipped devices. Huawei may be a new player in the smartphone segment but is a veteran in the building telecommunication networks. Huawei has been in the smartphone market for only four years. Yu said,

"When we announced four years ago that we wanted to sell phones, people told us we were crazy. When we said we wanted to sell 100 million phones, they said we were crazy."

Meanwhile, Huawei has recently launched a new premium phone, Mate 9 targeted at the European market. Huawei Mate 9 price is at 699 Euros. It has also launched a Mate 9 Porsche which is priced at 1,395 Euros. The Huawei Mate 9 is equipped with artificial intelligence feature. The AI can learn about the user's habit and automatically make the most used app easily available. As reported in GSM Arena.

Apple iPhone 8 will also have tough competition from Huawei regarding innovation. Yu has stated they will take on Apple iPhone 8 with their own innovations. Although Huawei Mate 9 is only equipped with AI, the smartphone maker plans to incorporate Virtual Reality, Augmented reality in the future phones.

The Cupertino is already being criticized for lack of innovation in its new iPhones and Samsung is dealing with the aftermath of Note 7 fiasco. Huawei has a window of opportunity to win over some loyal users. Interestingly, the smartphone giant is already number one player in the Finland market.

Over the years mobile industry has seen a fierce Apple Vs Samsung battle. With the entry of Huawei, the battle is about to get more intense.
