A pancreatic cancer is often considered to be a death sentence for patients because both the radiation and chemotherapy has a very little effect on the disease. A new study states that gold Nanoparticles can limit the growth of the tumor and spread of pancreatic cancer. This new study has paved a way for new therapies to treat the deadly disease.

Gold Nanoparticles are emerging as capable agents for cancer therapy and are used as drug carriers, contrast agents, photothermal agents and radiosensitizers in various investigations. As per a report published by the ACS News Service, the National Institutes of Health states that this year, nearly 53000 new cases will be diagnosed in the US. Out of these, 42000 people will die due to the fatal pancreatic cancer. But, this new treatment based on the tiny gold particles can help the cancer patients.

Scientists believe that these small gold particles can act as a vehicle to carry the chemotherapy drug molecules into the tumors or as a target to increase the impact of radiation on tumors. According to Azonano, a group of researchers including Priyabrata Mukherjee, these small gold particles can limit the growth of tumor in a model of ovarian cancer in mice.

The team has further concluded that the same treatment stands true for pancreatic cancer among mice. Amidst all these studies, an interesting revelation came up which stated that the New York has mentioned details about cellular communication that takes place in the area surrounding the pancreatic tumors. This communication is partially responsible for the deadly nature of cancer. When we interrupt this communication, the particles reduce the cell production and migration that occurs near these tumors. The study comprises of the gold Nanoparticles which are not toxic to normal cells. This study appears in the journal named American Chemical Society.
