Thinner, sleeker, and more efficient: This is how the 2017 Land Rover Discovery compares to its predecessor, the LR4. The fifth generation Discovery still boasts of off-roading capabilities, which is essential to the Land Rover brand. How different is it overall compared to the LR4?

First, it has shed 1,000 pounds of its weight. With this said, it also got rid of its boxy quality with its rounder front end and a narrower grilled for headlights. The two-part tailgate is gone in the 2017 model, as it has been replaced with a traditional one. This is one key difference between the two, especially since the two-part tailgate was a highly characteristic design of the Discovery.

The interiors are very different as well. It's definitely not as rugged before; especially with the center deck with fewer switches and dials. The overall design is smoother and there's a wider area for the infotainment section.

Owners can still get the optional InControl Touch Pro for their infotainment system; however, reviews still think that this feature isn't impressive at all. It can be integrated with Apple and Android devices as well as a 14-speaker output.

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is equipped with three seating rows, with the last one capable of seating two full-grown adults. All the seats are heated, which is definitely always a plus.

The car will go on sale summer next year, and the expected price is range is between $49,990 to $73,950.

A lot of car enthusiasts think that the discovery has lots its rugged appeal, especially with the car manufacturer decided to forgo with split tailgate. However, Land Rover says that such move was decided to add more functionality to the lower section. There's no denying that there is that gap between what Land Rover cars can do and how they look like.
