Medical Tattoo Can Solve The Trauma After Obtaining A Scar

Scar, as many would know is a fibrous tissue that replaces the skin after an injury. It is usually a normal body healing process in case we got cuts and other accidents. But, for some, it is somehow a reminder of trauma after undergoing operations and others from battling with cancer. Specialist today, incorporated tattoos or they called it "Medical Tattoo" to more or less help patients forget their hurtful past.

Medical tattoos are commonly benefited by cancer patients. Researchers now are trying to figure out if this method can be proved helpful to the patients, as the method is common in the United States. To that, they conducted a research.

Surgeon for ears, nose, and throat from the Maastricht University in Netherlands Dr. Rick van de Langenberg wants to study if the patients are satisfied with the medical tattoo. He conducted a survey to answer his questions.

The volunteers are from Amsterdam Hospital. Which researcher's surveyed 56 patients from 2007 to 2015 who underwent medical tattoos, with an average age of 57 and 75% are women. The experts focused on the tattoo that makes the skin look normal, in a report by UPI.

Researchers asked the patients to weigh the appearance of the scars on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being the worst. The results are very positive, patients have a 3.8 ranking in their scar before the tattoo was applied and it rises to 7.8 after the tattoo was finished. Dr. Rick van de Langenberg said that "patients were less stressed about the appearance of the scar and thoughtless about it," according to Health Day.

Meanwhile, a dermatologist at Willowbrook, III Dr. Jessie Cheung, shared that medical tattoo is often used for breast cancer patients after surgery. It improves the mismatch of skin color around the areola.

Dr. Rick van de Langenberg in the other hand shared that, the results of their research is pretty nice, in regards if the patient's satisfactory rates with the medical tattoo. Thus, FDA shared the safety regulations of the medical tattoo.
