San Francisco Bay Area issued the "Spare the Air" alert on Monday, July 25. The area made this alert due to high concentrations of the ground level ozone pollution.

The San Francisco Bay Area established the "Spare the Air" program back in 1991 by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The area does not solely aim on lowering the air pollution levels, but provide advanced warnings to the communities when the air is unhealthy.

The San Francisco Bay Area makes people aware that air pollution can be prevented by educating the public and promoting behavioral changes.  The "Spare the Air" program states alternative examples when San Francisco Bay Area's air is unhealthy.

People who live in the San Francisco Bay Area can choose to walk or ride a bike to work when the air condition is harsh. Other means shared by the program of San Francisco Bay Area is when the "Spare the Air" warning is up, residents can take public transportation or carpool to work, delay any activities using own transportation to run errands, bring lunch at work instead of driving someplace to eat, and use gas grills instead of charcoal for barbecues.

San Francisco Bay Area's  "Spare the Air" program even states that people can use a fuel efficient vehicle to help minimize the air pollution in the San Francisco Bay Area, SFGate reported.

Further, the San Francisco Bay Area's program educates the public on storing aerosol sprays inside their cabinets and open these sprays once air quality has improved, ABC7 News reported. The program also sends out advanced "Air Alerts" through public emails a day before they turn on the "Spare the Air" warning. These alerts encourage everyone to join forces to reduce air pollution.

San Francisco Bay Area helps alert people with respiratory diseases or hypersensitivity cases rise to make the necessary advanced precautions.
