There have been a lot of rumors about Microsoft's highly anticipated Surface Pro 5 release date. Previous reports suggest the device's launch is likely to get delayed to second half of 2017.

However, according to PC Advisor, there are chances that the rumored Surface Pro 5 might get announced in 2016 itself. On top of that the report claims that Microsoft is planning to offer more than one new Windows Surface device. App developer Shubhan Chemburkar recently shared some pictures on Twitter which hints that the software giant is preparing to launch a new Surface device sometime later this year.

The pictures, which Chemburkar took on a recent visit to Microsoft's building 88, showed a wall with placeholders for what appear to be Surface devices. One of the placeholders is marked "2016" and captioned "coming soon." There's another three devices which has "2017" label on them. It remains to be seen which Surface device will get announced by Microsoft this year.

Previous reports claim that Microsoft is looking forward to include the upcoming Intel Kaby Lake processing chip in its next line of hybrid devices. But, the Kaby Lake chip, which is currently under development, will not be ready before the end of 2016 and this will indirectly postpone Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date. Use of Kaby Lake chip is expected to double the efficiency of Microsoft next generation Surface Pro tablet. The current Surface Pro 4 lineup is powered by Intel's latest Skylake processors.

It is also reported that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come pre-loaded with Windows 10 Professional Redstone 2 operating system. The Redstone 2 version of the operating system is still under development and is expected to be available by spring of next year.

Rumor mills have it that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be rolled out in 2K as well as 4K display models. It is expected that the upcoming Surface Pro could be the first to get a USB-C port rather than the USB 3.0 port on the Pro 4.

As far as pricing is concerned, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to be launched with a hefty starting price of $1,199.

We would advise our readers to take the unconfirmed reports with a pinch of salt as nothing yet has been announced about Surface Pro 5 release date, specifications and pricing details.
