Remember the amazing Audi Car Tony Stark drives in Iron Man 3? Well unfortunately, the Car manufacturer has pulled the plug on its all-electric Audi R8 e-tron after a production run of just under 100 cars. According to Car And Driver Blog, the company is currently making deliveries of the last units before the production stops for good.

The 2016 Audi R8 e-Tron was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show last year. According to the Blog post, most of the manufactured cars were sold in Europe without any online configurator or published materials. That doesn't sound like Audi ever wanted to sell the car. The prospective buyers were also referred by the dealers to directly contact Audi HQ.

The Final 'End':

The e-tron was Audi's candidate in the clash with other automobile EV rivals. When the EV concept was first announced in 2010, many automakers were already busy producing electric cars of various designs. The R8 e-tron was cancelled previously back in 2012 following some confusion about the limited run of the first-generation R8 cars on which the R8 e-tron was based. However, Audi decided to hold onto the cars for its internal purposes.

The second-generation R8 e-tron made its official reveal in Geneva in 2015, turning out to be an amazing electric sportscar. The Car features 456 horsepower and 679 pound-feet of torque. The acceleration was pretty interesting as well, giving a thrust of 0-62 mph time in just 3.9 seconds. On full charge it could go up to 280 miles.

The e-tron will leave a mark in Audi's automobile history as it was the only R8 model that featured rear-wheel drive. Other than the e-tron's european owners who managed to get their hands on the sports car before Audi pulled the cord, the R8 e-tron will probably go extinct without any appreciation.

The German automaker though currently sells the A3 e-tron, it's very likely that it still has several EVs in the production line. Stay tuned to SWR for further releases from Audi.
