After facing a delay of almost a decade, the highly anticipated, "The Last Guardian," will finally be rolled out for PS4 this year.

Sony announced "The Last Guardian" during its E3 2016 press conference on Monday, where a new gameplay trailer was also released. "The Last Guardian" is the final chapter in the trilogy that started with "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus." The game was first announced way back in 2009. While, it was scheduled to release in 2011, the release never happened.

Ever since it was announced, "The Last Guardian" release was postponed again and again. In fact, gamers even speculated that the game would never see the light of the day. Previously, the game had been in development for the PlayStation 3. But due to some technical issues, the development team made the decision to move to the PS4.

It was last year in November that Sony revealed that it was purposefully holding back the game's release as it needed time to develop the story-heavy game.

The third-person action-adventure puzzle game, titled "The Last Guardian," revolves around a young boy who has been kidnapped and left in some ancient ruins. He must work with a strange bird-cat hybrid creature to fend off attackers, escape imprisonment and solve puzzles.

The new gameplay trailer shows the close connection between the boy and his companion Trico. Other creatures of the same species as Trico can also be seen in the game's trailer. The trailer ends with Trico getting hurt and making anguished noises and the young boy consoling him asking if his wings are broken.

The game will release later this year on October 25, 2016, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
