Statistics show that each year, 1.76 million people die from lung cancer, making it the  most deadly form of cancer globally, according to Gold Copd. These are not the only shocking statistics about respiratory diseases. Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, known as COPD, kills about 3 million people every year, 1.6 million individuals die from tuberculosis, and 334 million people have asthma. While infections, smoking, and genetics are the leading causes of respiratory health problems, new studies show high levels of  air pollution tied to deteriorating lung health among individuals. Experts recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent respiratory disorders.

Improve Indoor Air Quality
Though eliminating all allergens within living spaces is impossible. There are easy strategies you can put in place to  improve the quality of air in your house. Invest time and effort vacuuming area rugs and carpets, getting rid of clutter, washing beddings, and curtains on a regular basis. Make sure to clean other items that attract dust. Maintaining clean spaces promotes good air quality, reducing the risk of allergies. In some cases, however, cleaning spaces alone cannot reduce allergens. Increased air pollution in your house can lead to serious health problems if you or another family member is diagnosed with severe lung disorders like COPD. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, patients require oxygen therapy, which helps increase oxygen levels in the blood. In this case, investing in  portable oxygen concentrators is highly recommended. Not only will it improve air quality indoors but also when you are going for a stroll or running errands outside. Just as the name suggests, portable oxygen concentrators allow you to carry them around, giving you peace of mind and freedom from the large oxygen tanks.

Quit Smoking for Better Overall Health
Smoking contributes to 84% of deaths from lung cancer, and 83% of smokers die from chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. In fact, 7 out of 10 smokers say they want to stop, but find it difficult. Cigarettes contain toxic chemicals, which, when inhaled, narrow the airways and destroy lung tissues. Besides, the smoke emitted by cigarette smokers contains harmful chemicals. It causes air pollution, leading to serious health issues even to non- smokers. Quitting the habit of smoking can be challenging, but the sooner you stop, the more chances you have to improve your lung health. Medical experts claim that after two to three weeks of smoking cessation, air circulation improves and lung function increases. The  long-term benefits of quitting smoking include decreased coughing and shortness of breath, and the risk of mouth, pancreas, stomach, and lung cancer reduces by half.

Stay Away from Vaping
Smoking e-cigarettes has always been a healthy alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes. But, lately, there are concerns about the link between e-cigarette smoking and the development of lung diseases.  Research data reveals vaping causes cellular inflammation, which is a key driver of respiratory health disorder developments and lung cancers. The main ingredients of e-cigs are safe when used in cosmetics and foods, according to the Food and Drug Administration. However, the effects are unknown when smokers heat and inhale e-cigs. As much as vaping is safe compared to smoking tobacco cigarettes, it is best to avoid e-cigarettes. Recent reports of vapers developing lung diseases are alarming. When non-smokers inhale the smoke from e-cigarettes, they are likely to experience respiratory disorders. By quitting vaping, you reduce air pollution that affects not only you but also non-smokers.

When you breathe polluted air, you take in allergens, which go into the lungs and destroy tissues. As a result, the lungs' functions decrease, leading to low circulation of oxygen. To avoid air pollution and maintain a healthy lifestyle, individuals should avoid smoking and vaping. Also, they should focus on keeping spaces clean and make use of air purifiers to enhance oxygen circulation.
