Gone are the days when special features such as unlimited storage for high definition photos and videos were exclusively given to Pixel phones by Google. The Pixel and Pixel XL have arguably Google's favorites since their release late October of this year.

The predecessor of the Pixel line of phones is the Nexus, with Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, its latest models. And having much manpower being dedicated to producing the new Pixel line, Android chief, Hiroshi Lockheimer, has mentioned that the company is not closing its doors to future Nexus developments. The upcoming Android 7.1.1 Nougat update brings with it some interesting improvements to the Android-supporting Nexus phones before the year ends.

Factory images for the upcoming Nougat update were posted by Google just earlier this week, so the Android 7.1.1 is undoubtedly close. Although not all of Pixel's new features will be translated through the, a fair share of them are present. One is the inclusion of gender equality promotion emojis to the Nougat's architecture. Google stresses that this update, although seemingly superficial to some, is an important way of giving users new and more personalized ways to express themselves.

And as if a new variety of gender-sensitive emojis isn't enough, Nougat is slated to also include a way for users to incorporate GIF images to their messages as well. Android 7.1.1 Nougat update includes a way to organically attach and share GIF images from the phone's keyboard. These new features will be available for certain specific messaging applications, such as Google Allo and Messenger.

Another main part of the upcoming update is the Android 7.1.1's app shortctus. Previously just a Pixel-exclusive feature, the Nougat update promises to let supported Nexus devices that same feature after getting 7.1.1.

This feature lets users access their apps using app shortcuts on the home screen. This works not only for opening the apps but running certain functions within the apps, bypassing the need to open the apps before getting done with what needs to be done. The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will be rolled out over the next couple of weeks for Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C tablet as well as the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, the Nexus Player and the General Mobile 4G.
