A new Wipeout game for PlayStation 4 has been officially announced to be released in the summer of 2017. The game will be called the "Wipeout: Omega Collection." The popular Wipeout series are based in futuristic racing times. It was first released in 1995 and has been a part of the PlayStation games library since its first launch. However, the franchise was missing in the latest Sony PlayStation 4 console. The last installment was the Wipeout 2048 in PlayStation Vita.

In September 2015, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, had given fans new hope about PlayStation 4 games including the Wipeout title for the console. Following such rumours, the final announcement has definitely made the fans happier.

The 'Wipeout: Omega Collection' was announced at Sony's PlayStation Experience 2016. It features remastered versions of the previous games in the franchise. The previous titles include Wipeout HD (2008 release), Wipeout HD Fury (2009 release) and Wipeout 2048. These games will be remastered and included in the latest title. The games will be rendered in brilliant 4K resolution with HDR and frame speed of 60 frames per second. That way it will also be awesomely played on PlayStation 4 Pro.

The new game will feature nine modes which include the Tournament, Zone, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Single Race modes from Wipeout HD; the Eliminator, Detonator and Zone Battle modes from Wipeout HD Fury; and Career Mode from Wipeout 2048. The game will also include 26 racing tracks and 46 ultra-modern racing vehicles. The multiplayer options can be played on split screen modes or online with eight players.

PlayStation 4 and Wipeout fans are not extremely happy about the announcement as "Wipeout: Omega Collection" is just a remastered version of existing titles. However, they are looking forward to a new soundtrack and other secondary features.

Will the remastered version feel like a recycled version of the old games? Or will it fulfil the expectations of fans worldwide? That can only be seen after its global release. PlayStation Experience 2016 also included the release of titles like "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" and remastered versions of "PaRappa the Rapper," "Patapon" and "Loco Roco."
