Altice USA- which is the 4th largest cable company in the country, plans to bring superfast 10 Gbps fiber lines directly to its entire customer base. They have more than 8 million customers to cater and they plan to bring the lines all over the country in the next 5 years.

While Altice USA may not be the most popular Internet Service Provider, it the fourth largest one. It plans to upgrade customer experience to a great extent in the next 5 years by providing them with high speed fiber lines. The work will start from 2017 and is expected to cover the US customer base in 5 years. The plans have been sped as Altice will skip on the DOCSIS 3.1 system. This system has been used by competitors like Comcast, who offer gigabit connection.

Comparing Competition

Altice is going to do something even Google Fiber was unable to achieve. They are going directly into the fiber to the premises (FTTP) system. While Google is opting for the wireless 5G network as iots future plan, Altice does not expect it to match up to a network of highspeed fiber. Altice CEO, Dexter Goei has expressed similar views in his interview with Wall Street Journal. Similarly, Verizon could not deploy a full fiber network to its customers as it had planned. It dropped plans to roll out FiOS fiber last year itself.

Given that its strongest competition has been subdued, Altice can probably prove to be a game changer in the industry. Its biggest advantage is that it can utilise the existing system left to it by the other networks. Without needing to build a new network entirely from the beginning may help the cable company.

Do you think that Altice will be able to achieve what bigger competitors could not? Keep watching this space on SWR for more updates!
