If you think you've made a wrong decision opting for an iPhone 7 with 32 GB memory space, you might be wrong. Recent reports have shown that no matter which storage capacity you have, you'll have a similar experience in terms of speed and performance. Although a smaller memory size may theoretically mean lesser channels, in Practical life even if you own a 256GB iPhone, the experience would be the same as that of a 32 GB smartphone.

While theoretically, lower-capacity storage chips should perform a bit slower than the higher-capacity ones as the number of parallel channels is lesser, practically, your iPhone 7 would be as fast as the 128GB and 256GB models. Here's Why:

Is read speed More Important?

According to Cnet's preliminary tests on two iPhone 7 of different storage capacities, only the write speed is affected by the difference in the storage capacity. This results in a slower write speed on the 32GB phone. However, as the read speed determines the booting speed or how fast an app is launched, it is more important. And this is the reason why the 32GB iPhone 7 will be just as fast as the 256GB one. As most of the activities we do on the iPhone 7 revolves around the reading speed, the Memory Size difference isn't that a big deal after all.

When Does The Write Speed Matter?

SSDs, the memory chips used in the iPhone 7 is able to write data at 100 megabytes per second. When recording any HD 4K video, the only required write bandwidth speed is 30MBps. So, having a faster write speed wouldn't make any difference in the speed or performance of the iPhone 7.
Now, if you've watched a video like this one from the Unbox Therapy, you shouldn't be getting confused. The reason why the 32GB iPhone 7 is getting slower than the other higher storage capacity iPhones is due to the huge amount of Data that is being transferred. Obviously, In our day to day activities, there's hardly a chance of transferring that much data to or from an iPhone 7, so that shouldn't be that big a problem.

32GB or 128GB: Which iPhone 7 to buy?

If you actually want to compare the write speed of different capacity iPhone 7s, you should first make sure that all of the phones have an exact same amount of free storage space. Of Course, if you're buying a 32GB iPhone 7, you wouldn't get to put tons of HD movies on it. If you want that, then you should probably go for the 128GB option at least.

Theoretically yes, there's a speed difference between 32GB and 128 GB versions of the iPhone 7, but that arises only when you're transferring a huge amount of Data. Now, in real life who does that? So, basically, you should go for which memory size suits you the best. Stay Tuned To SWR for more news and updates on the iPhone 7.
