The features consumers look for in a device are never-ending and normally it is the concerned company offering it that will dictate such. For the “Blocks” smartwatch, that is partially true since it offers upgrade options in the form of modules.

“Blocks” is the first-ever modular smartwatch that is reportedly set for a Fall release. The customizable smart wearable should be an interesting buy, something that had an impressive Kickstarter run that netted $1.6 million.

Blocks Wearables has started pre-orders for the uncanny modular smartwatch, with factory-ready devices reportedly undergoing the final testing phase before it undergoes mass production.

"Two and a half years ago, we started with an idea. An idea to make smartwatches infinitely customizable, open and upgradeable. Thousands of hours later, with the help of hundreds of people from all around the world, the world's first modular smartwatch is here," read a statement by the company via Kickstarter.

Speaking of Kickstarter, Blocks Wearable did previously open pre-orders for the smartwatch back in November, 2015 but was unable to meet the set May, 2016 deadline. They have nearly 5,500 pending orders to be fulfilled.

The Blocks Smartwatch is priced at roughly $330 but does not include shipping. There will be only four modules included which will depend on what the buyer fancies.

A general description of the smart wearable is that it will feature a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen display (400x400 resolution) and a frame made of stainless steel. Inside, it will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 Wear processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB of storage and a 300 mAh battery.

The device will come with support for Bluetooth and WiFi and will run on Android Marsmallow. The device is compatible with Android and iOS run devices.

Blocks Modular Smartwatch Options

As mentioned, there will only be four user-preferred modules available. To date, there are only six modules available. That includes:

Though the modules available for the Blocks Modular Smartwatch seem a bit thin, the company hopes to add more to the list. Among the planned modules include ingerprint authentication, gesture control and body temperature.

With modules working on an open platform, such opens the doors for possible third-party developed modules as well. Each piece comes with a "Core" or a watch face unit shrouded by four modules that make up the strap. The wearable is made of polycarbonate.
