The City of New York is ready for any catastrophe that will strike. The city has prepared multi-million dollar worth of supplies for people in case the residents have to evacuate their homes in emergency situations.

According to CBS, who got an access to the said stash, New York City has prepared a 50,000 square foot emergency stockpile comprising of emergency supplies. There are thousands of pre-packaged food that even have kosher, halal, and gluten-free variations.

New York City Office of Emergency Management assistant commissioner for logistics Jonathan Jenkins even described what CBS has accessed too and claimed there are so much more. "This is only a portion of it. This is only about 55 percent of our actual complete stockpile," he said.

Apart from foods, the stockpile also included daily grooming products such as toothpaste, soap, and shampoo. There are also face masks, diabetic strips, diapers, and flip flops that may come in handy.

The initiative to create this stockpile was generated by the failure to respond to Hurricane Katrina adequately. The Office of Emergency Management is hoping that with this stockpile, no more crises will be insufficiently responded to.

"There are over-the-counter medications, there's Pedialyte, there's baby formula, dog food. Pets are New Yorkers too, and so we have supplies for dogs, cats. We even have stuff for birds and rodents," Jenkins said. "We have stuff for kids, stuff for pets, and kind of everything else in between."

Reportedly, the massive stockpile of goods and other important supplies will be able to take care of as many as 70,000 people for more than a week's time.

The stockpile's future was threatened some weeks ago after there was a proposal to reduce the federal grant supporting it. Fortunately, New York lawmakers announced a few days ago that funding will not be cut anymore.

According to Morning News USA, this may even be the city's way of preparing against Doomsday 2016!
