Nintendo and Mojang are coming together to bring plumbers, koopas, and POW Blocks to "Minecraft: Wii U Edition" this coming May 17 to completely free new content.

Called the "Super Mario Mash-Up Pack" the game includes pre-made world and music inspired by Nintendo's popular game series, such as "Super Mario World," "Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Sunshine," a total of 15 pieces of music in all. But that's not the only thing to look forward to the game. Time also noted that the companies have 40 Super Mario-themed skins, and that it can be played as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Wario, or even the Koopalings.

This retextured game resembles the iconic series and even added a few new mobs. The official statement from the companies noted that the players will be able to fend off blocky versions of villains like Hammer Bros and Dry Bones the same way Minecraft gamers can with Creepers and Zombies.

This Wii U edition of Minecraft is a bit late to the party, arriving as a digital download in December. However, despite the smaller-sized world, it can be played off-TV using the Wii U GamePad. It's a bit weird that you can't use the touchpad to interact with the interface, but it's still worth it for a bit of Mario Bros nostalgia.

The retail version of the game will arrive on June 17, with the Super Mario Mash-Up pack included on the disk.

This isn't the only good news for Minecraft fans, either. According to IGN, Mojang, which released "Minecraft: Gear VR Edition" last April, is also expected to bring Minecraft to the Oculus Rift later in the year - which means that yes, this addictive game is coming to VR.
