A group of Florida anglers had a frightening experience off the coast of the Dominican Republic when a massive 350-pound blue marlin jumped aboard the fishing boat almost spearing one of them.

Another angler captured the blue marlin jumping out of the water on to the boat and almost knocking down one of the anglers. The video was uploaded on YouTube and has grabbed nearly 613,667 views till date.

The 350 pounds blue marlin was hooked but was not reeled in and the fishermen were surprised to see the big fish jump aboard and it took several minutes for the fisherman to control the mayhem that ensued, reports KXAN

Blue Marlins are the largest Atlantic marlins and one of the biggest fish in the world. Native to the tropical and temperate waters, female marlins are larger than males and grow to a size of 14 feet and weigh more than 1,985 pounds. When hooked the blue water fish puts up a tremendous fight. They feed on tuna, squids and mackerel and their meat is a delicacy in Japan.

The anglers generally release their catches back into the ocean waters but this fish unfortunately died of self inflicted injuries. Some sources claim that the marlin had to be killed as it was injured and struggled so much that it could have harmed the people on the boat.

Boat owner Beecher Jacobsen, a resident of Florida, said, "We billfish for the sport of it, not to kill. You have no choice when something like this happens. Everybody was scared there for a minute, and once we realized nobody got hurt and everything was under control, we realized we had a pretty good piece of video."

In this case the angler was lucky as he missed getting speared by the blue marlin unlike the 38 year old Bondi doctor, Bishan Rajapakse who was slapped down unconscious by a whale's tail and suffered a sore head.
