Big Cat Prowling Northeast Detroit Neighborhood Unnerves Residents [VIDEO]

Detroit city is shaken up by the presence of a super-sized, aggressive cat prowling around the area.

The mystery surrounding the gigantic cat-like animal prowling around Detroit persists as it is yet to  be confirmed whether the animal is a feral domestic or a larger species that was brought to Detroit as a pet and was either released or managed to escape captivity, reports the  Detroit Free Press.

"I've never seen a cat that big - even on TV," said local resident Nathan McGuire, 47, who captured the gray cat on camera with black marks on camera.

The giant gray cat with black markings, big ears and a long tail is claimed to be around four feet tall..

Paul Hatley, 14, who ran into the cat a few days ago, claims the cat was scary, "It wasn't normal," he said of the big cat. "It didn't run away like normal cat. It just stared at you. It was scary."

Residents who got no help from the Detroit police and Animal control, can now rest easy as the Michigan Humane Society responded to the residents' plight by announcing that it will investigate into the matter and hunt for the big feline.

"We're going to put some effort into this," said Nancy Gunnigle, a director with the Humane Society. Cats this size, she said, are "not easy to catch."

According to Tom McPhee, the executive director of the World Animal Awareness Society who is assisting in conducting a study on stray dogs in Detroit, said that for every stray dog there were 10-20 stray cats. A recent survey puts the number of stray dogs in the city at 50,000, which McPhee  said might be a little exaggerated.

A law passed in Michigan bans acquisition and possession of large carnivores such as big cats and bears.
