The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers against purchasing Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity First B-50 as the vitamin B dietary supplement may potentially contain two traces of anabolic steroids, including methasterone, a controlled substance, and dimethazine. Neither of these ingredients were listed on the label, according to the U.S. FDA.

"Products marketed as a vitamin but which contain undisclosed steroids pose a real danger to consumers and are illegal," said Howard Sklamberg, director of the Office of Compliance in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, via the FDA release. "The FDA is committed to ensuring that products marketed as vitamins and dietary supplements do not pose harm to consumers."

The organization notes that it has received 29 adverse incidents associated with the use of Healthy Life Chemistry by Purity First B-50, including reports of fatigue, muscle cramping, and myalgia (muscle pain) as well as abnormal laboratory findings such as abnormal liver and thyroid function and even, in some cases, cholesterol levels.

Women who used the product also report unusual hair growths and missed menustration. Males reported impotence and findings of low testosterone.

Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should seek professional help immediately. The FDA suggests that health care professionals and consumers report any adverse reactions via submitting to this report online

The FDA asks health care professionals and consumers to report via the FDA online and/or downloading and completing the form, then submitting it via fax at 1-800-FDA-0178.

Healthy Life Chemistry By Purity B-50 is manufactured by Mira Health Products Ltd. In Farmingdale, N.Y., and is sold on various websites and in retail stores.

Steroids can be particularly debilitating to your health. For example, men who take anabolic steroids may develop breasts, get painful erections, have their testicles shrink, have decreased sperm count, become infertile, or become impotent. Women who take anabolic steroids may grow excessive facial or body hair, have deepened voices, experience menstrual irregularity, have an enlarged clitoris, reduced breast size, or a masculinized female fetus. Both men and women can also get acne, have oily scalp and skin, yellowing of the skin, potentially become bald, and endure other side-effects from taking the drug.
