We might not quite understand all the things our dog does (and, for that matter, we may never.) For instance, why does he knock his water bowl over? And on that note, why would he prefer a slurp of toilet water over a cup of Evian poured into his doggie dish?

Sure, some things are easy to figure out, but for us humans, it just doesn't make any sense. Fortunately, in the adorable, loyal and disgusting world of dogs, there's a lot more intelligence to their secrets than meet the eye.

First off, let's address the issue of why dogs prefer toilet water over tap? According to the experts, it's pretty plain and simple on this one-dog's don't really have a clue what toilets are. To them, a toilet may be an amazing natural fountain with a never-ending supply of cool, clean water. Not only does the repeated flushing keep the water fresh, but the greater oxygenation might also make the water "taste better" when it comes to your pups perception. They have no idea poop and pee go in there. (And even if they did, they might still prefer it.)

Just as dogs love to eat feces, they look for remaining nutrient particles left in fecal matter. To them, this can be a real treat, laced with left-over pizza or broccoli from last night's dinner. (By the way, sorry if understanding your dog's brain is making you sick. It's pretty gross for us, too.)

In the end, we may never understand all the things our dog does, but at least some of the things they do-no matter how disgusting or simply bizarre-make a little more sense.
