Google has informed developer members of its Glass Explorers team that the first wave of Glass prototypes is ready to go out to them.

The Web giant sent out an e-mail today to everyone on the Glass Explorers list to say that a few of the $1,500 wearable devices had already come off the production line, according to Cnet.

"We've been working hard on the Glass Explorer Edition and we have great news: the hardware and software are now ready for you," the Glass Team wrote in the e-mail. "We're seeing the first few devices come off the production line right now."

The company said that as soon as the Google Glasses are ready, they will send them out to those on the waiting list instead of waiting for them all to be ready and ship them out at once.

"We're producing enough for everyone, but only a portion of them are ready today. Therefore, we'll be notifying you in waves," Google wrote.

Google Glass is an augmented reality headwear that allows users to record videos, snap photos, use maps, chat, search the internet and more.

Earlier reports suggested that Google Glass is being manufactured in Silicon Valley. If true, shipping should be a relatively straightforward affair for the search giant. Google Glass is expected to arrive on the market for the general public later this year.
