Did you know that you can tell a lot about your cat's health just by looking at her poop? Yes, that's right. It's hard to believe, but that's the easiest way to figure out if your cat faces any health issues instead of speculating anything. Whether it's your first time adopting a kitten or you already have one for years, make sure you keep an eye on the litter box while taking the poop out.

What's normal cat poop?

Cat poop usually has a deep-brown color and is neither too soft and mushy nor too hard. Although there is a slight odor, it isn't unbearable. If your cat's poop is all of the above, congratulations, you don't need to worry about her. She is in perfect health.

Diarrhea in cats

Diarrhea isn't uncommon in cats. Sometimes it will go away in a couple of days. But if your cat is suffering from some health issues, diarrhea can remain for weeks and even months. Some common causes of diarrhea in cats are as follows:

  • Colitis

  • Changes to her diet, intolerances, or food allergies

  • Pancreatic disease

  • Hyperthyroidism

  • Cancer

  • Intestinal parasites

  • Inflammatory bowel disease

You should go to a vet if you notice diarrhea lasting for more than two days. Make sure you check her poop every time. If you see black or bloody poop, along with symptoms like vomiting, loss of appetite, sluggishness, or fever, call your nearest vet right away.

Dealing with cat poop

It isn't easy to deal with cat poop, especially if your furry feline has diarrhea. With the liquidy poop and terrible smell, it becomes a hard life for cat owners. But you can turn things on your side by using some cat litters, for example, these top rated cat litters. They not only control the odor but also don't mess up the litter box.

It makes cleaning the litter box easier as the litter absorbs the cat's poop within a few minutes. Moreover, some of the cat's litters smell like pine or lavender. That means there won't be any foul odor throughout the house due to your cat's sickness.

Treating cat diarrhea

A vet determines the treatment for your cat's diarrhea depending on what's causing it in the first place. Sometimes, he may recommend a prescription medication like prednisolone or metronidazole to control her inflammatory bowel disease. On the other hand, he may also suggest changing her diet. As already mentioned, diarrhea may again happen due to some food intolerance or food allergy. Alternatively, he may also prescribe deworming medication to get rid of the worms from your cat's stomach.

You also need to play an active role in helping your cat become fit and healthy. Don't give her dairy products like yogurt or milk. Also, find alternative cat treats or try switching brands.

It's heartbreaking to see your cat suffer. But you can bring her up to speed again if you keep an eye on her poop and take her to the vet in time.
