Almost six kilometers from the closest sea, a seal pup was found in a forest in eastern Sweden on Sunday. Police authorities and residents are surprised and puzzled as to how the seal pup arrived in the forest.

"A somewhat confused person called and said he was out walking in the woods where he had found a seal pup. I thought he was joking at first," Uppsala police inspector Henrik Pederson told news agency TT.

Hunter Robert Sandefors who first spotted the seal pup speculates that the pup made its way into the forest on its own, following the visible tracks in snow. He was advised by the police authorities to take care of the pup. The police officials state that the active and enthusiastic seal pup made its way to the forest by crawling three kilometers on sea ice and three kilometers into the woods, reports AFP.

Sandefors was quoted in Swedish Radio stating that the pup must have got separated from its mother, and headed into the wrong direction on being lost.

On being rescued, the young seal pup struggled and bit the workers who were engaged in transporting the pup into the waters, reports The Inquisitr.

The 2-month-old seal pup was later released into the Dalaelven River.

Mikael Larsson, another hunter with Sandefors, says that the pup was saved at the right time, as a skier followed the tracks and noticed it was being chased by a fox, reports The Inquisitr.
