Google has now decided to replace its earlier Internet Of Things Platform "Brillo" with a new Android Things Platform. The Tech Giant rolled out the developer preview of the new software on December 13, stating that the new platform will aid in the further development smart devices based on Android APIs as well as Google's own services.

Google "Android Things": Why Replace Internet of Things "Brillo"?

The earlier platform Brillo was based on combining several separate Android developer tools including Google Play services, Android Studio, Android SDK, as well as Google's cloud computing services. Now, with the launch of the new Android Things, the company aims to use everything they learned from Brillo, to develop a more advanced system.

According to recent reports from 192.168.1.1, Google has rolled out the update to "Brillo" Users and developers to help develop and migrate the projects from the earlier platform to the new Android Things. Google has also decided to extend support to other platforms including NXP Pico, Intel Edison, as well as Raspberry Pi 3.

It's worth noticing that the earlier platform enabled the smart devices to interact with other Android devices through an advanced communication system called Weave. The communication took place over a cloud to which all the devices were connected. As the "Brillo" project did not work the way as Google had planned, the new "Android Things" Platform has to be introduced.

Google "Android Things": Here's Everything About The New Internet Of Things Platform

'Android Things' is an update to the earlier IOT OS and works in the device's background so as to enable the smart gadgets to communicate with other devices and carry out several functions on their own. Although the tech giant has removed a number of components that didn't work well with the earlier Internet of Things "Brillo" Platform, other Android developer tools including Android SDK, Google Play Services, Cloud Services and others have rather been left intact for the new platform.

Google also announced that several other smart device manufacturers including WeMo, LiFX, Belkin, Honeywell, TP-Link, Wink, and First Alert will also work on the new platform to enable their devices to be compatible to work with Google Assistant. The Company further stated that an update is also being rolled out for the Weave platform, which would aid the devices to communicate with Google Assistant.

Google "Android Things": What Else Is New?

If the new Android Things works the way as it's expected to, we may soon be able to control even the smallest gadgets using Google's assistant. The new Device SDK update has a built-in support for smart plugs, light bulbs, switches as well as thermostats. Several new devices support has also been unveiled at the time of the big reveal. The new platform will soon get a public source code release. Stay tuned for more news and updates on Android Things and Internet Of Things "Brillo" platform.
