T-Mobile’s New ‘Digits’ News & Updates: One Share Phone Number For All Linked Devices

T-Mobile has just jumped on the shared number bandwagon with their newest feature - T-Mobile Digits. Similar to AT&T's NumberSync feature, Digits is a way to let customers use the same phone number across all registered and connected devices. Digits is currently under beta for any willing participating customers in preparation for its full-blown release early 2017.

During the press release announcing the proposed Digits features, T-Mobile says that with the technology, customers will be able to make outgoing calls and take incoming ones on whichever device they deem is most convenient for them at the moment. All the customers have to do is to log into their T-Mobile account and number on the device and all the call history, stored messages, and archived voicemails will be made available to them.

The company has yet to release an official price for the monthly subscription feature, but as of now, Digits can be tested out by any of the opt-in customers who have decided to participate on the beta. When asked about the specific subscription details of Digits, T-Mobile COO Mike Sievert had this to say:

"This is not going to be treated as adding another line to your account. Expect us to be disruptive here."

Another neat new feature worth noting with Digits is its capacity to enable multiple phone numbers on just one device, almost the exact opposite of its previously mentioned main feature. The advantage to this is letting customers designate different work and personal numbers on the same device without have to create multiple accounts or cellular lines.

One can even opt to create a temporary extra set of numbers to use in situations where giving your main phone number might not be the best idea. Although temporary, any calls and texts that go through the number will automatically (and selectively) be forwarded to your devices. With the versatility of these features, the sky is the limit.

The only issue is its incompatibility with iMessage. Nevertheless, if that doesn't bother you too much, all you need to avail of Digits is a postpain T-Mobile account. It will be usable on Android 5.0 devices and above, iOS 9 devices and above, as well as Firefox and Google Chrome on the desktop.
