They also established charging networks for these vehicles. They are trying to make the car apt for both the customers and the law and order authorities alike.

Incident Details

Due to this BMW Remote Lock technology, BMW has been able to help police lock a car thief inside of the stolen vehicle itself! The Seattle Police Department recently posted a blog post which mentioned the event that happened in the city. According to the blog, the car thief saw an opportunity in an unlocked BMW 550i inside a parking garage. He also discovered the car keys inside, and he left with the vehicle. He is 38 years old.

The owner of the BMW 550i had loaned the car to her friend and had been married recently. She discovered her car to be missing the next morning. She immediately called for the 911 assistance. After the police authorities were notified, they got in touch with the BMW corporate wing. BMW helped police track the stolen car using the tracking system and also helped lock the thief inside using BMW Remote Lock mechanism. The vehicle was found in a secluded alley and it was still running when it was found by police. The thief was sleeping in the car's driver seat.

The BMW Remote Lock helped trapping the thief so that he could not escape before the police reached him. When the officers reached the spot, they woke up the suspect. The car thief tried to drive away, but was not able to and was apprehended by the officers. The thief has been put in the King County jail after arrest. Charges of theft have been levelled against him. Since he was also found with a small stash of methamphetamine, he also faces a drug possession charge.

These innovative technologies are helping counter criminal acts and increasing the security of the cars. Not just this, they also help in protecting the car owner. Only last year, tracking technology helped find a stolen Tesla car. The owner tracked the car and alerted the authorities who got back the vehicle.
