Amazon Prime is now offering the Prime customers a chance to purchase monthly subscriptions to HBO and Cinemax directly from their Amazon accounts. Amazon has been pushing the boundaries with its recent announcements and collaborations. Currently, Amazon Prime offers HBO at $15 per month. Cinemax costs $10 per month.

Both channels of prime time content were also announced as additional features on DirecTV Now. DirecTV Now is AT&T's new streaming service. These collaborations only depict that HBO and Cinemax are trying to fish for a larger audience base online apart from the traditional cable customers. A large number of households do not have cable connections, and hence, such a move seems logical on behalf of the cable channels.

Amazon's announcement and the decision may be questioned for one simple reason. The HBO viewers can opt for HBO Now, its own online streaming app, for the same price. However, the ease of paying bills in the same place is useful for the Amazon Prime customers. This collaboration is another reason for people to switch to Amazon Prime services.

Currently, many hit shows including Westworld and Game of Thrones are being broadcast on HBO. Amazon Prime would bag the credit for all the live streaming of these popular series. The viewership base in Amazon Prime could reach a new high and serve as a good competition for Netflix and Hulu.
