Tesla’s Solar Roof To Cost Less Than Normal Roof

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk recently unveiled the Tesla Solar Roof, launched with the aim of replacing traditional roofing system. The tiles of the solar roof can reportedly harvest solar energy. Moreover, as per Musk, the newly introduced solar roofs will be cheaper than the conventional roofs.

"So the basic proposition will be: Would you like a roof that looks better than a normal roof, lasts twice as long, costs less and - by the way - generates electricity?" Musk said to Bloomberg. "Why would you get anything else?"

Incidentally, Tesla merged with SolarCity to facilitate the production of the innovative solar tiles. The new solar roof was revealed in Los Angeles alongside two other products, the Powerpack2 and Powerwall 2. The latter two have been specifically designed to work together to promote renewable and sustainable energy to homes.

Solar panels are generally not known to be affordable, which is among the primary reasons that more homeowners are still not replacing their existing roofs with solar panels. Elon Musk wants to change things; however, at the moment, the price of the newly launched product is not quite clear.

Additionally, it is not known how the new solar roof will manage to be more affordable than traditional roofs, considering the fact that the newly launched roof will be a premium product for at least the next few years. According to a report by Tech Times, transporting a regular roof is costly due to its weight and size and perhaps the Tesla roofs will be different in this. However, only time can tell how Musk will be able to produce affordable solar roofs.

Detailed information about the quality of the roofs has not been revealed yet, and neither has it been unveiled whether the product will be capable of powering up the entire household. It should be noted that though the launch has already taken place, the new roofs themselves will be available to the public only in 2017, after Tesla produces the roofs in volumes.
