A new theory put forth by researchers this week sheds light on final days of Amelia Earhart based on the bones that were found and lost seven decades back. Amelia Earhart attempted to circumnavigate the globe in a Lockheed Model 10 Electra aircraft, way back in 1937. She was accompanied by her navigator, Freed Noonan. Her plane had vanished over the pacific. It was assumed that her plane crashed and her bones were lost to the deep waters.

Story behind the Speculated Amelia Earhart Bones

Sometime in 1940, a local from Nikumaroro, an island in the nation of Kiribati in the south Pacific, found a skull and a bottle. Further investigation led to discovery more bones and size 10 shoes. The only partial skeleton was found and rest of the bones have not been found till date. It was estimated back in 1941 that the skeleton was probably a male and a local castaway.

New Theory Based on Amelia Earhart Bones

International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) since 1999 has been trying to find out the remaining of the Amelia Earhart Bones and establish the last days of her life. A new theory put forward by TIGHAR Amelia survived for months on the island and dies as a castaway.

Further investigation into the files and previous records of Earhart Bones revealed that the forearm was considerably larger for a European woman. With the help from forensic imaging specialist Jeff Glickman, it could be established that the Forearms of castaway and Earhart matched. Researchers also found bonfires in the area where the bones were found. Several animal and fish bones were also discovered indicating she fought for her life for months. As told to CNN by Gillespie,

"We believe she survived heroically, and alone, for a period of time, in terrible circumstances. History needs to tell her story right."

Since no other bones were found it was assumed that Noonan died after the crash and washed away by the ocean. Earhart in her distress call before crashing had mentioned about Frederick being injured. An important chapter in the life of Earhart is still a mystery. We can only hope to find the truth with the help of Amelia Earhart Bones.
