Nexus 5X/6P owners had been quite disappointed after having discovered that several of the significant features featured in the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, especially Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gestures, won't come in their new Nexus devices. Google has now decided to roll out a 2016 Nexus 5X/6P firmware update to enable the features on the Nexus smartphones.

The Nexus lineup has always been receiving latest updates from Google, quite obviously when the news regarding Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gestures not being featured in the Nexus 5X/6P smartphones, many users were left disappointed. Here's what we know about the 2016 Nexus 5X/6P Firmware Update so Far:

2016 Nexus 5X/6P Firmware Update: Why is it so Important?

Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gestures were earlier featured in the Google Pixel as well as the Pixel XL smartphones, but not in the Nexus 5X/6P smartphones. Quite recently, Google stated that the feature is not working in its Nexus lineup due to a firmware problem.

The tech giant also made it clear that it is not a hardware problem and that the developers have been working on a firmware update to enable the feature. The Nexus 5X and 6P smartphones currently run on the company's old firmware, and so they do not support Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gestures. The new feature enables Pixels' owners to use the fingerprint scanner gestures to switch to the notification panel. Although the Nexus 5X/6P smartphones do run Android 7.1 Nougat Update, the fingerprint gesture was not featured in the new smartphones.

Apart from Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gesture, Pixel's Night Light feature has also not been brought to the Nexus 5X/6P smartphones. The Nightlight feature that reduces the screen's blue light, to make the screen's brightness soothing on eyes.

Hopefully, after the new 2016 Nexus 5X/6P Firmware Update, the forementioned feature along with several others will be supported in the Nexus 5X/6P smartphones. The Pixel handsets although have taken over the whole smartphone market, it has also been a fallback for the previously launched Nexus models. Now, after receiving critical comments about the Pixel's features not being featured in the previous lineup, Google has again focused its attention on the 2016 Nexus 5X/6P Firmware Update.

It's worth noticeable that Google has already taken both the Nexus 5X/6P models off the shelves to make space for its latest Pixel Smartphones. Although, with the new firmware update, the Nexus phones may support Pixel's Fingerprint Scanner Gesture but eventually the company's support for the older lineup will fade away.
