We all love cute pictures of cats. They're usually doing the most adorable things, like climbing in boxes or tearing up the couch. And a scuffle between two lions in Africa is right up there as darling and dangerous.

A photographer saw this fight break out in Tanzania, according to reports, and caught the whole act inside Serengeti National Park this week, according to Yahoo! News. The Savannah cat fight broke out just as the sun was coming up, and the dominant male lion from one of the groups made his way to the others.

According to Animal Planet, one of the first things lions do in their new pride is establish authority. When this happens, the offspring of the defeated males are often killed. This makes the biggest threat to lions one of their own and not an outsider. To help ensure dominance, new males in the pride must father cubs as soon as possible, and males will even kill their own cubs to make a female who is not ready for mating go into heat.

The rip-roaring scenes of the battle between the pride of lions were snapped by the photographer who was just 20 meters away. The amateur photographer, Andrew Atkinson, captured their combat early in the morning between the young cats.

The safari truck he was on pulled up as the dominant male strode over to kick-start the turf wars between the big cats who can tip the scales at anywhere up to the 180kg mark.

Even if you don't find the pictures cute, at least you may find them interesting.
