A new study conducted by the researchers at the John Hopkins Medicine revealed that too much of calcium supplement intake can cause heart risks, especially among women. Women generally consume calcium supplements to boost the strength of their bones.

Though calcium is considered to be a perfect remedy for bone treatment, it gets accumulated in the heart, thus, causing various heart problems. It makes the heart to response slowly to the demands of the body. Accumulation of calcium in the arteries can trigger heart attack among individuals.

Researchers have suggested the patients consume calcium rich food such as dairy products, cereals, juices and leafy vegetables rather than adopting calcium supplements. According to the CBS news, "The National Institute of Health ,released a statement stating that nearly 43% of men and women take a supplement that includes calcium."

Too much consumption of calcium supplement can cause a condition called Atherosclerosis, where the plaques are hardened and it can risk your heart. The tiny calcium supplements carry a highly concentrated amount of calcium and are generally associated with stroke and death.

Doctors in United State recommend their patients to adopt a healthy lifestyle including exercise and perfect body weight, to avoid Osteoporosis. You can prevent Osteoporosis and thus, reduce the issues affecting your bone. Dr. Erin Michos, Associate Director of Preventive Cardiology and Associate Professor of medicine at the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease said, "Our body metabolizes calcium rich food products and supplement in different ways, reports Baltimore Sun. If you are worried about your bones, then get the calcium through the means of food and avoid consuming supplement as it can cause heart attack, stroke and sometimes, even death."

According to the US National Institutes of Health, "About 43% of American adults now consume the supplement that includes calcium and nearly 60% of American women consume them to treat Osteoporosis".

There is no harm in consuming calcium rich food products but people should consult a doctor before approaching the calcium supplement.
