A much needed "hotfix" was recently applied by Rocket League game developer Psyonix. The said update makes adjustments to the way the game would handle its competitive tiers, gave each mode separate standards for its ranks, and lowering skill threshold in every tier.

The developers wrote about how it observed the issue with the game's skill distribution across tiers. This is due to how players are distributed across different tiers. Most players are ranked and placed into the "average" tiers. While there are only a few "grand champions" playing the game.

To even out the imbalance of players and spread players across all different tiers, the developers has come with to lower its skill tier threshold. This means players don't have to win as many matches to be admitted into the Star and Champion tiers. In addition to this, skill tier thresholds are now separately classified across different modes. Players who usually play 1 vs. 1 will work on a separate skill curve than those who frequently play the other modes. Another example is when Doubles players now have separate set of standards for reaching the advanced tiers than Singles players.

Psyonix says players that were ranked as Challenger and above could have themselves gain anywhere from one-half to two skill tiers. While those in the Rising Star ranks might bump up to Shooting Star or higher. Those ranked at the bottom are more likely to observe no change at all. Despite this, players' rank won't update immediately - you'll have to initially win some matches for the calibration to take effect.

Aside from the hotfix, Rocket League also has introduced a new game arena that's set under the sea. It was launched for free together with two new premium DLC cars based on the deep sea theme.

In relation to this news, the game developer Psyonix told GameSpot that they are considering a PS4 Pro update that will upgrade various aspects of the car-soccer game.
