Google took to the "Made by Google" event stage to officially announce the much anticipated high-tech gadget "Google Home" on Tuesday in San Francisco. The home assistant device was initially unveiled at the I/O developer conference back in May. It is expected that "Google Home" will give a tough fight to the already popular Amazon Echo.

According to The Verge, the voice-controlled assistant "Google Home" is powered by the search giant's artificial intelligence-powered "Google Assistant." Notably, Google Assistant for Google is what Siri is for Apple, Alexa is for Amazon and Cortana is for Microsoft. "Google Home" will take voice commands from users to perform a host of activities including play music, stream videos, connect other smart home devices, make shopping lists, turn smart lights on, translate languages, set alarms and more.

How Google Home Works?

In order to use "Google Home," users will first have to say "OK, Google" before issuing commands. The 5.6 inches tall smart home assistant makes use of two microphones to take verbal requests, and a software to separate voice commands from ambient room noise. There are four LED lights on top of the device which will light up to show when it's listening. There's also one physical mute button at the back which can be pressed to prevent the device from listening, reported CNET.

Google Home vs Amazon Echo-

"Google Home" offers a host of interesting features which Amazon's Echo does not offer. For instance, the smart home assistant can be used to access Google Play Music, YouTube Music, and forward information to the user's smartphone as well as cast content to the TV via Chromecast. Unfortunately, there's no support for Apple and Amazon's streaming music services.

As far as pricing is concerned, "Google Home" is set to begin shipping on November 4 in the United States with a price tag of $129, which is $50 less than Amazon Echo.
