What's currently ruling the internet is the new Japanese sensational song called "PPAP", or "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen." Notably, the catchy song "PPAP" is all about combining pens with apples and pineapples and has nothing to do with tech giant Apple. The new addictive song comes from Piko Taro, a fictional character played by Kazuhiko Kosaka, who is a popular Japanese musician and comedian. The "PPAP" song has the potential to be the next viral hit after Psy's wildly popular "Gangnam Style" song.

While, the song clip was posted to YouTube in late August, it rose to popularity after being uploaded on 9Gag's Facebook page, where it successfully garnered around 50 million views and nearly 1 million shares. The one minute song gained more than 4.5 million views in the last few days, reported CNet. The #PPAPchallenge on Twitter has also received a lot of interest from people all over the world competing to produce their own cover clips of the song.

The "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" or "PPAP" song video features the singer Piko Taro himself in a colorful yellow outfit against a white background singing the song, "I have a pen, I have an apple -- apple pen." The entire lyrics of the song is in Japanese except for the verses which are in English, reported The Verge.

Kosaka had first introduced the fictional character Piko-Taro in stand up live performances. It became so popular that he decided to develop the character and make music videos as Piko Taro. Elated with the song's popularity, Kosaka went on to express his gratitude in a Twitter post which read "Everyone and I am PIKOTARO. I'm very happy because many people see PPAP from all over the world this time." In fact, he has uploaded a new video in his YouTube channel to teach the dance steps of the crazily popular song.
