Personality types can be categorized in just four types

In the course of the study about 541 people were put in different social situations. In a study published in uc3m.es, the situation warranted them to either work together or against each other bringing out a certain type of personality type in them.

All the subjects were given a scenario where working together had greater benefits. As reported by Cosmopolitan, all the people involved in the study were told if they work together they can hunt a deer or else they could work alone and hunt a rabbit. What would they do?

In this manner information was obtained how people react to different situations. The results were analyzed with computer algorithms and all the participants were classified based on their behavior into a particular personality type.

The results were shocking. Up to 90 percent, people could be divided into four basic personality types, Envious, Trusting, Optimistic, and Pessimistic.

Envious Personality Type

The Envious personality types did not mind what they get as long as it is better than others. They would go for a rabbit as they would be able to do more for themselves.

Optimist Personality Type

The Optimist personality types believe they can hunt a deer. So they choose to work with a partner as that would increase their chances of success.

Pessimist Personality Type

The Pessimist personality types believe that they can never hunt a deer. So they choose to work alone and increase their odds of hunting a rabbit.

Trusting Personality Type

The Trusting personality types are those who believe in co-operation. They will choose to work with someone else without factoring whether they win or lose.

About 30 percent of the people in the study fell into the envious group. It was surprising to find that most of the people are happy to beat another person rather than performing better collectively.

The remaining people who did not fit any personality type suggest that smaller sub-groups exist. The reactions to any particular situation could not be determined for such personality types.
