The Apple iMessage is the newest addition to the hot topics discussed regarding Apple products these days. Recently, the tech giant has been making headlines due to its new products and features. Questions were asked amidst feelings of amazement and doubts among fans and product users. While the heated discussions on release dates, specs, and rumors are not yet over, here is another one that people might be talking about at this very moment: the Apple iMessage GIF search. Apple has banned 'butt' search due to My Little Pony porn coming out first in the results.

Apple seemed to have overlooked the possibilities of porn images showing up in search results; hence it was a surprise to know that a sexualized My Little Pony character was found upon searching for the word 'butt'. According to The Verge, Apple has censored searches for words that might result in pornographic photos.

Meanwhile, the challenge does not seem to end with censoring particular words. Apple needs to be more comprehensive in dealing with the full extent of the problem. For one, it autofills texts, which may still lead to porn results. An example cited by The Verge was typing "dic", which presents "dick pic" as a suggested option. Moreover, misspellings tend to show related GIFs that may include nudity.

For almost a decade now, iOS has been known to be a porn-free platform and for its rule against third parties. Therefore, its own mishap was indeed very surprising. At present, the fairness of censoring searches for certain words is among the discussions of numerous people especially Apple product users.

In the time being, GQ acknowledges that sending GIFs in Apple iMessage is one of the most notable features of the iOS 10. It likewise acknowledges the truth that mistakes really happen in a tech rollout. But, it does not take away the fact that Apple should do better to prevent mishaps like this.
