Nissan recently unveiled a new performance variant of its awesome Sentra SE-R--from the 90s--at the Miami auto show. Powered by a similar turbocharged engine as that found in the Juke Nismo, this new model is appropriately named the Sentra SR Turbo.

In the new 2017 model, Nissan has decided to give the consumer a little more go with the addition of the new SR Turbo model. The original standard SR with it's naturally aspirated motor is still being offered.

Complete Specs:

  • The new Sentra SR Turbo works on a 1.6L turbo-charged four cylinder engine and a optional six-speed manual which it gets from the Juke. Though it's smaller than the actual 1.8L four-banger used in the earlier Sentra SR, the turbo still cranks out 188 horsepower combined with 177 lb-ft of torque --giving improvements of 64 and 52 units.
  •  The Sentra SR Turbo also promises to be a sharpened handler. Nissan stated that the front springs in the SR Turbo are stiffened by 10 percent whereas damping is increased by 23 percent at the front side and about 50 percent at the rear. Steering, a main factor, has also been modified with now a larger steering motor for Power Steering.
  • The front disc brakes measure 11.7-inches over all in diameter. The Sentra SR Turbo also uses the same solid rear discs as the earlier SR.
  • On an outlook, the Sentra SR Turbo looks identical to the regular SR, with a few body modifications. For instance, rear spoiler, LED headlights, a chrome exhaust finisher, the lower side sill extension and the 17-inch alloy wheels. The Turbo does have a unique badging and a standard moonroof.

From the inside the Sentra SR Turbo looks mostly the same story, the cloth sport seats and "the sport interior trim" all taken from the base SR. A premium package is also available for the SR Turbo that includes leather seats, an upgraded 5.8-inch color screen with navigation, Blind Spot Warning, Bose audio and a Cross Traffic Alert.

The price is going to be announced closer to the Sentra SR Turbo's market launch in 2017, but the expected price is a premium over the actual $20,410 Nissan charges for the earlier Sentra SR. The SR Turbo is going to be available in a couple of variants including: Gun Metallic, Red Alert, Brilliant Silver, Aspen White, Super Black and Deep Blue Pearl.
